It’s freezing cold outside. You just woke up to get ready for work only to discover your house is 58 degrees! So what gives? Turns out, your heat isn’t working! So what can you do? Of course, you can call on our heating and cooling company in North St Paul for help considering we offer 24/7/365 emergency services, but what can you do in the meantime or even before you give us a call?
Check Your Thermostat
This might sound obvious, but give your thermostat a quick check before you call on our heating and cooling company. Make sure it is set to heat, and make sure the temperature on it is set to turn on when your home’s temperature drops below a comfortable temperature. It’s easy to accidentally bump into your thermostat without realizing it, and sometimes that can cause your programmed settings to reset or otherwise malfunction.
Check Your Furnace’s Filter
When was the last time you changed the filter in your furnace? If you can’t remember, take a quick trip to your furnace and look at the filter. Is it dirty and dusty? Does it look like it’s seen better days? If so, you should go to your local hardware store, buy a new filter and put it into your furnace before you give our heating and cooling company a call. Sometimes, a new filter is all it takes to get your furnace back up and running.
Check the Power Source
Make sure your furnace is turned on and that it’s getting electricity. A lot of furnaces will have an emergency shut-off switch that looks a lot like a normal light switch. Make sure your furnace wasn’t accidentally turned off. Also, check to make sure that a circuit wasn’t tripped.
