Summer Air Conditioning Tips from Your Local HVAC Contractor

The Prescription Heating & Cooling team wants to make sure all of our clients save money on their heating and cooling costs, but want them to stay comfortable at the same time. With summer in full swing, we want you to get the most out of your air conditioner, but not break the bank. Here are some tips to make sure that’s the case:

Right size

You want to have the right size air conditioner for your home. An air conditioner’s power is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs), and the higher the BTUs, the more powerful your air conditioner is. If you’re not sure how big your air conditioning unit should be, check out Page 3 of this Energy Star document or contact us.

Ceiling fans

Did you know running your ceiling fan at the same time as your air conditioner can make a difference of 3-8 degrees? A ceiling fan costs, on average, a penny per hour to run, so having it run won’t cause your wallet to hurt.

Replace older units

If you have an air conditioning unit that is more than 15 years old, you may want to think strongly about replacing it. Newer air conditioning units use, on average, 10-30% less energy than older models. The savings you experience from your newer system can help it pay itself off over time.
